Already? Wait where did the week go?!

Tuesday we had the introductions of the projects and afterwards we visited some of them.
At first I was really interested in Ingubo, this is what I told a lot of people. Ingubo is a program were children can go when they live on the streets and/or dump. But after hearing the project from the supervisors it didn't seem interesting at all anymore. And after visiting I knew it wasn't a project for me.
During the speeches the crèches seemed really interesting and the Old age Home (house of happiness), while that isn't my target group at all.
The projects were really interesting and everybody was very sweet. But I was still doubting.
In the evening we went on a boat trip, the guy guiding us was really weird but a fun weird. When we arrived at the baai (bbq) we of course had a baai :P
Wednesday we started with jogging. I wasn't able to hold on long this time, but we took 45 minutes this time. And then we had two classes. One about management, which we need for the projects and one about the African culture. The woman who gave this lecture was a very strong woman and she gave a very good and also entertaining lecture.
She had a western look on the African culture so she was able to relate to us very well. But at the same time she loved everything about her own culture and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
And after these classes we went to the township to get another tour. Only this time the town itself. The first thing you have to do, apparently, is visit the oldest man in the town.
After that we went to a local shop to buy some candy we could give all the children. And there were a lot!
Then we walked around a bit, learning some African words from our tour guides. Like 'molo' and 'molweni' which mean hello.
She, one of the tour guides, showed us a bed and breakfast and we also went into a church. Both were really impressive. The B&B looked better then my own room, even a little better than my parents house!
And the sermon was really impressive. They were singing when we came in and it was quite easy to follow. And when the stopped (after a 3-4 minutes) the preacher explained who we were and asked everybody to pray for us. He was saying a lot really fast, asking for blessings and that our hearts would be enlightened after we came home and that we would have found the answer, things like that. Then all of a sudden everybody started praying and speaking a lot of things trough each other. It was really beautiful. I hope I can find a movie from a classmate for you all, although it won't be the same.
Then we ended our tour at a restaurant. Here we had real African food. Carrots, chicken and a mais dish. Very good :)
When we came back we went to Snorts again. And this time it was really fun. There were a lot of people. Wednesday and Friday are the best days to go out.
Thursday we had to choose our project. And I choose the crèches. After talking with my group I'm really looking forward to it. Next week we will be able to go to the crèches.
We tried to follow a Pilates class. But the instructor, a student herself (we think), didn't show up. And from members of the club that was very unusual, especially that she didn't let them know. We hope to be able to do some Pilates next week.
Wednesday I found some time to do some hand washing but I only hung it up on Thursday morning. And that was a mistake. It rained all day. So we had to bring some to the laundry service at school.

Love,
Anna

    Afke:
